HomewardBound of the Grand Valley Recognizes Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week

November 11 - 18 is Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. In this annual event, people across the country come together to draw attention to the challenges that face the individuals and families in our communities who are experiencing hunger and houselessness.

In the last year, HomewardBound of the Grand Valley has provided emergency, overnight shelter for over 1,400 individuals and over 175,000 meals to meet the basic needs of those in our community who are experiencing homelessness. With winter right around the corner, the need continues to grow.

In recognition of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, we are asking our community to take action and help in our efforts to end the unwanted condition of homelessness in the Grand Valley. Here are some ways you can help.

  1. Donate - Donate to your favorite charity addressing hunger and/or homelessness. Financial donations are vital to ensure services and resources are available for those who need them most. Donating new or gently used items also helps provide for immediate, basic needs and allows organizations to keep their operating costs low.

  2. Volunteer - Share time with an organization in need. Volunteer opportunities are plentiful among your local non-profits and are a great way to get your family, service club, church, or other organization involved in giving back.

  3. Share - As a society, we may very well have the resources and knowledge to end hunger and homelessness, but we will never get there until we work collectively as a community. Share with your community about what they can do to help and bring awareness to help those experiencing hunger and homelessness.

Get involved by donating, volunteering, and learning more about the people in your community who need some support to get on the right path.  At HomewardBound we are working to eliminate the unwanted condition of homelessness in the Grand Valley, and we can’t stop until every unhoused person has a path home.
